Autumn is fast approaching and the days are getting a lot colder here. I’ve been completing my autumn wardrobe and fixing stuff that needs to be fixed. I still need a pair of long leather gloves and some high heeled but comfortable shoes, but otherwise I’m ready for the new season!

I’ve always liked cheongsams or qipaos and planned to get one some day, but since I found the Soft Film blog I like them even more. I love how the actresses shown almost always wear cheongsams, but they are so varied in fabric and trimmings. Makes me want an entire wardrobe of different cheongsams. I’ve put off making any posts about some of my very favourite actresses since I have so many photos of them that I couldn’t even begin to think about which photos to post.

Some of the ones I have the most photos of are Elizabeth Taylor, Jayne Mansfield and last but not least, Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn is, quite predictably, my all time favourite and I have so many photos of her that I’ve dreaded putting together a post on her. Instead, I’ve decided to post separate photo shoots or otherwise related photos of these actresses, starting with Marilyn’s pink Niagara dress.

Marilyn of course wore this dress in Niagara, but all but the first of these photos are from an event held to launch a new song by Ray Anthony called My Marilyn. I love the earrings she wears with this dress.

I’m a big fan of Kim Novak. She’s one of those people who, though of course beautiful in photos, has a hundred times more appeal when you see her moving and talking on the screen. My favourite Kim Novak movies are Bell Book and Candle, Boys’ Night Out and Vertigo (Kim is the only “Hitchcock blonde” that I really like). She was also a guest star on my favourite 80s soap, Falcon Crest.

Beryl Wallace was a showgirl at Earl Carroll’s Vanities, and also his girlfriend. She made some movies as well. I originally stumbled upon some photos of her when looking through the LIFE archives, and have since found a few more. She’s incredibly beautiful and has great hair.
